Why is it that human beings have prophecies? One possible explanation is that we want to warn others against disasters, either externally driven or self made, such as the prophecies of Biblical times.
But another possibility, which makes it more interesting, is that prophecies are indications of what it is we want from our future, both individually and collectively, a kind of subliminal wish list. If it is the latter, then we should not be surprised if they at some point in time become fulfilled, since they are our collective dreams expressed in advance of them being realized. I suspect we will find prophecies come true in the future, in the same way the biblical Prophets saw their hopes come true, or still await them, in their Messiah.
